Obituary of MAE ETHELWYN HILL

Hill, Mae (Smith, Gerrow) - Mae grew up in the Oakland area, lived for over 50 years in Waterford and spent her last 3 years in the John Noble Home in Brantford. She leaves behind her beloved family, son Jack (Jan) and family: Tricia (Nick, Mikayla and Abigail), Kelly (Christopher), Michael (Jessica), daughter Heather (Randy), Shawn (Norah, Brysen, Sophia-Lynn), Sister Coral Glynn, brother Kenneth (Joyce), sister-in-law Fern Smith and many nieces and nephews of the Smith, Campbell, Gerrow and Hill families who have always been very important to Mae. She was predeceased by her second husband John (Jack) Hill (2016), her first husband John (Jerry) Gerrow (1957), and brother Edwin (2009). After graduating Waterford District High School, she attended McMaster University where she was the first woman to earn a degree in Mathematics She then completed teacher's college. Mae truly enjoyed her 28 years teaching in the high schools of Port Perry, Aurora, Waterford and Port Dover. Over thirty years of retirement were highlighted by many trips and incredible photography. Jack and Mae first crisscrossed Canada and then explored the world. Mae also became very involved in the Superannuated Teachers of Ontario and served as provincial president in1993. She was active in the University Women's Club of Norfolk County, the camera club, square dancing and the United Church. Mae has been cremated. There will be a memorial service at Waterford United Church on Thursday May 25, 2017 at 11am. Rev. Mary Jo Patterson officiating. The ashes will be interned by the family in the Waterford and Port Perry cemeteries at a later date. Funeral arrangements are entrusted with THOMPSON-MOTT FUNERAL HOME, Waterford, 519-443-5332.
