From niece Nancy Riddle Shay
Mildred was my mom's (Dorothy Riddle) only sister. They lost their mom at an early age. Mildred was only 10 years old. Family history was Mildred's "specialty", She could remember so much. Very descriptive and interesting information about the person or event. She would reminisce telling about the year, time of day, who was present and what the weather was like. I would often write down questions to ask Aunt Mildred about not only our family history, but that of others.
After my mother died, Mildred took her photograph album and wrote small notes about many of the pictures. She also wrote 5 pages about "the other Nancy" and that was her grandmother, Nancy Macklem Barnes whom I was named after. Doug read that to her recently. So glad to have that as a "keepsake".
As Mildred got older and not driving, when sometimes seeing me she would say "I need to go shopping". Off we would go to Lime Ridge Mall in Hamilton or other malls, spending the day shopping and dining.
She was a special lady!
