Obituary of CORRIE BURKE

Please share a memory of CORRIE to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
BURKE, Corrie – Unexpectedly but peacefully at her residence in Bealton on Saturday, September 11, 2021 in her 75th year. Beloved wife for 53 years to Allan. Loving mother of Jennifer (Michael), Tim (Amanda) and Brian. Cherished grandma of Isabel, Spencer and Ella. Dear sister of Marty (Shirley) Bruines and Henry (Grace) Bruines and sister-in-law of Joan (Hugh) Learmonth. Corrie will also be sadly missed by nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. After emigrating from Holland in 1951, Corrie spent most of her childhood in Brantford, Ontario where she met her eventual husband Al. After a few years together in the city, Corrie moved out to the country so they could start their family. Corrie spent the next two decades living the life of a full time country mom, becoming very involved in community groups such as the Bealton Women’s Institute and was a leader of many 4H clubs. Eventually she decided to re-enter the workforce and was the office manager at Ruff Clarkson Steel for over 20 years. After her retirement from “Ruffy’s” she shocked her entire family by deciding to get involved in the family business at the Cambridge Farmer’s Market. She quickly became an institution in her own right during her time there, and will be sadly missed by several longtime vendors, staff and regular customers, many of whom considered her to be their “market mom”. Corrie was also an avid baseball fan, and split her love nearly equally between the Toronto Blue Jays and her grandson Spencer’s team the Welland Mustangs. Corrie cherished every moment she spent with all of her grandchildren, whether it was watching her granddaughter Ella play soccer or attending many fancy tea parties with granddaughter Izzy. A visitation will be held for friends & family at the Waterford Legion Pavilion, 223 Nichol St., Waterford, on Tuesday September 21 between 2 and 4 pm and all are welcome. Refreshments will be made available, and the family will be there to visit and share stories with all who can attend. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Norfolk General Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Thompson-Mott Funeral Home, Waterford (519-443-5332). www.thompsonmottfuneralhome.com
