HARTNELL, Raymond Harold – With great sadness the family announces the passing of Raymond at Norfolk General Hospital on Thursday March 31, 2022, of Waterford. Ray was born July 31, 1937, the son of William and Esther (Wensley) Hartnell of Blue Township, Rainy River District, Ontario. Ray was a Millwright-Industrial Mechanic by trade. His working career started at Steep Rock Iron Mines in Atikokan that began a lifelong interest in machine repair. Raymond and Ruth (Bingleman) were married on May 5, 1958, in Rainy River. Ray was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. The family moved to Waterford in 1961 and Ray was employed at Judd Furniture then White Farm and Romtel/CME in Brantford. The summer garden, fruit trees and walks on the trails provided hours of activities. The 1993 trip to England was a special treat to walk and see the area where his father was born in 1897. Survived by wife Ruth, daughter Elizabeth Mels, sons Keith (and Donna), and Steven. Grandchildren David (and Carla), Sarah (and Matthew), Laura (and Nick), Megan (and Yvan), Asha, Raina, and great grandchildren Lauren, Rachel, Alice, Hayden, Ryder and Kaydi. Sister Gladys (and Gerald) Anderson, brother Dr. Bert (and Elizabeth) Hartnell, sisters-in-law Mona Hartnell and Laretta Hartnell and the extended family members. Predeceased by parents, brothers Lloyd, and Gerald, infant sister Ruth, son-in-law David Mels, and daughter-in-law Charlene Vandeweil Hartnell. Ray was a fair-minded, hard-working man with a keen sense of humor. Family and friends will be received at Thompson-Mott Funeral Home Tuesday April 5, 2022, from3-6pm. A private family graveside service will be held at Waterford Greenwood Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy those wishing to donate in Raymond’s memory may donate to Waterford Heritage Trail, or Lynn Valley Trail.
