Obituary of RUDY STICKL

Please share a memory of RUDY to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

STICKL, Rudolph (Rudy) Joseph, age 68, passed away peacefully at home in the care of his loving family on Thursday June 15th, 2023.  Rudy was born in Hamilton, Ontario on August 26th, 1954.  Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Norfolk County to work in the tobacco fields prior to establishing a now multi-generational farming operation.  Rudy enjoyed working on the family farm and the business side of the operation.  He obtained his BA and MBA from the University of Toronto and put his degrees to good work through his management of the family farm for nearly 40 years.  Rudy was committed to agriculture and held positions with numerous organizations including the Ontario Flue-Cured Tobacco Grower’s Marketing Board.  He also held positions with the Norfolk Liberal Association, and was the Liberal candidate for Norfolk in the 1995 provincial election.  Upon retirement from farming, Rudy continued to work for the people of Norfolk County as a member of the Committee of Adjustment.  Rudy was a life-long member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Simcoe, and held positions as church elder and congregational chair for over 20 years.  Rudy was known for his gift of speech and his ability to converse with anyone, his quick wit and humor, and his love and pride for family.  He believed strongly that faith and family are the two most important aspects to life.  He did not miss an opportunity to be with those whom he loved or let them know how proud he was them, especially his children and grandchildren.  Rudy is lovingly remembered by his wife Cynthia (Cyndy) (nee Anderson) of 44 years, his daughters Melissa (Julian) Stewart, and Allison (Anthony John) VanBerlo, his son Trevor (Emily) Stickl, his grandchildren Reid and Lucy VanBerlo, his sister Rosemary (Gary) McQuiggan and their children and grandchildren.  Rudy is also survived by his aunt and uncle Katie Hirmann of Waterloo, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Rudy is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Karoline Stickl (nee Bitz).  The Stickl family would like to extend their esteem gratitude to his medical team at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto, ON, as well as Dr. Jeff Tschirhart, Dr. Robin Martin-Godelie and the Stedman Hospice Community Outreach Program for their care and compassion.  Friends are invited to meet with the family on Monday, June 19th, 2023 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Thompson-Mott Funeral Home 62 Main St. N., Waterford, ON.  The funeral service for Rudy will be held on Tuesday June 20th, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 155 Colborne Street North, Simcoe, ON, Reverend Dan Abraham officiating.  Internment will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to Stedman Community Hospice, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or the charity of one’s choice.
