Mr and Mrs Muise and family
I had the privilege of getting to know Zak when he and my daughter Emily moved to Kelowna. He was a kind, thoughtful and gentle young man. I could not have dreamed of a better friend and room mate for Emily. With Zak, I always knew that Emily was safe and having fun. My heart is with all of you during this sad time. Please know that your son was an amazing person and I know that you are and will remain very proud of him.

Zak was so much to so many… although Zak was not in my life for long, the memories we made and his presence will be felt for a lifetime. I know I’ll see Zak again one day, probably catching a sunset no doubt. But until then I wanted to say thank you Zak…
Thank you for being authentically you. For the long, comforting hugs. For the laughs and wild adventures. For always dancing and singing the night away with me. For always speaking so highly of those you love. For constantly reminding me that I am “a weapon that cannot be holstered” when I doubted my capabilities. For being that safe space and holding space. For allowing my last words I said to you be about how proud I was of you and I always will be.
Zak, You were taken from this earth far too soon but I know you felt just how loved you are by each of us. We love you, we adore you, we will always remember you.
Love you always. Channel 5 Muise forever.

To Zak's mom and dad..and family. I didnt know Zak but I am sure he was somewhere in the vicinity of an area I worked this summer. Thank you for raising such a valiant young man. Thank you for him. I can well imagine the worry you felt every day while deployed as well as the pride you felt that he was doing what he felt was important work. And it is important. I can't comprehend the loss of a child..but the thought would haunt me. To your son..your wonderful boy I say "Fly sweet angel as only angels can" to you..I Wish you stregth and love. Respect. I was so sorry to read about Zak's passing and want to express my deepest condolences to all his family, friends and coworkers. The news of any firefighter dying in the line of duty is always heartbreaking, however, Zak's untimely passing hit especially close to home for me because we share the same last name.
I am a 48 year veteran fire chief (United States Forest Service), and still engage in firefighting activities in the summer as a Safety Officer with a National Type 1 Incident Management Team. In those many years, I have been a part of numerous tragic incidents and it is always difficult be deal with the loss of a colleague. Especially because the wildland firefighter community is so small and tight-knit.
Please know that I share in your grief and join you in your mourning as we all try to come to grips with the loss of a hero in the service of his country.

Our deepest sympathies to Tim, Sheila and the Muise family. Losing a loved one is never easy, but when they are as young as Zack, it seems especially hard and unimaginable that it's happened. Stay strong and help each other grieve together. Talk to people who have experienced the loss of a child; they'll understand.

To the entire Muise family,
Many years ago, I taught Zachery in Grade 1. He was an excellent student with very good manners and a pleasant personality.
I was shocked to read about Zachery's passing. He was so young, with great potential! I didn't realize he was a firefighter. He showed great courage in bravely fighting fires for the good of others. I am heartbroken about this tragic incident. He is now gone from us, but his courage and great sacrifice will always be remembered by all!
I extend my sincere heartfelt condolences to all of you!
Sincerely,
Mary Pearce

Zak and I worked together in the back shop at the Greens at Renton, and were extremely close during these times. Those summers were filled with so many great memories, and laughs along the way. There is no person I had more fun working with during those years than Zak.
My thoughts and prayers are with Zak and his entire family during this difficult time. The impact he had on so many lives including mine will be cherished forever.
Love you bro ❤️

The comfort and light Zak’s presence brought to those around him spoke volume to who he was as a person, a friend, a classmate, and as a loved one. I am grateful for all of the memories I got make with Zak within the walls of WDHS and the following years after, but what will always stand above is Zak’s genuine nature and the friend he was. He valued those around him and always made sure that was known through his words and actions. To have known him is a gift; one that will be cherished by many. Rest easy our sweet friend.
