WITHAM, Brent Gregory 1959 – 2023 Brent Gregory Witham, a lifelong resident of Villa Nova, passed away on Wednesday, September 27th, 2023, at the age of 63, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Hamilton. Brent’s life was made rich from country living, community involvement, and passion for the great outdoors. Born and raised in Villa Nova, Brent experienced the joys and wonders of rural life from an early age. He began his education in a humble two-room schoolhouse in Villa Nova, where he formed lasting friendships and learned the values of hard work and camaraderie. His journey of learning continued at Bloomsburg, Townsend Central, W.F. Hewitt and later Waterford District High School, where he continued to cultivate his love for knowledge. One of Brent’s greatest passions in life was sports, with a special affection for hockey. He not only played the game with enthusiasm but also dedicated his time to coaching numerous teams as he grew older. His dedication to coaching was recognized when he received the prestigious Coach of the Year Award, a testament to his commitment to nurturing young athletes and instilling in them the values of teamwork and dedication. Beyond the realm of sports, Brent had a deep love for motorcycles, cars, and any activity that involved the great outdoors, risk, and, most importantly, fun. He lived his life with a sense of adventure, always ready to explore new horizons and embrace new challenges. Brent leaves behind numerous friends who demonstrated unwavering loyalty by faithfully visiting him in the hospital, even though the commute for most was well over an hour. Their presence provided comfort and support during his challenging times, a testament to the deep bonds of friendship he forged throughout his life. Brent was a lifelong member of the Villa Nova Baptist Church, where he was baptized and actively served on their council. His faith was an integral part of his life, guiding him in his actions and providing him with a sense of purpose and community. Predeceased by his father, Beverley (2016), his mother, Marjorie (2017), and his sister, Paula (1996). Brent’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of his surviving family members. He is survived by his brother Jim, his nephew, James, and niece Mary Lee, who held a special place in his heart. In his final moments, Brent would like to express his heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Juravinski Hospital and the exceptional care provided by Dr. Jordan Lefranier, Dr. Shelly Sender, Mathew Kettings, and countless amazing and dedicated nurses at St. Peter’s Hospital in Hamilton.
