Obituary of JACK TEAKE HALLEMA

Please share a memory of JACK to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jack Hallema on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Norfolk General Hospital. He was 87 years old.  He is the son of the late Gerrit and Lolkje Hallema. Jack was born in Tsjom, Friesland (Netherlands). He immigrated to Canada in March 1955. He started out in Bradford, Ontario but settled in the Villa Nova area where he bought a dairy farm and married. He thrived as a dairy farmer. His heart was in farming, auction sales, and antique markets. He always had time for a good cup of coffee with friends.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Lynell (Lyn) Slack and his children Tammy (Rolando) Zanovello and George (Karen). He is Pake to eight grandchildren: Hannah (Frank), Marianna (Rapha), Julien (Meghan), Stefan, Remy Zanovello; Kristyn, Natalie, and Caroline Hallema. He is grandfather to four great grandchildren. Brother of Harry (and Betty), Hester (and the late Pete) Luinstra, Carol (and the late John) DeRyter, and John.  Visitation will be Sunday, November 12, 2023 - 2-4:00pm at Thompson-Mott Funeral Home, Waterford, Ontario. The funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Monday, November 13, 2023, at Bethel Reformed Church (506 West Street, Brantford). Interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Waterford. In lieu of flowers, donations to Organized Kaos are appreciated. This is a registered charity. Organized Kaos uses the trades as a medium for discipleship. Hands-on projects in the trades break down barriers to have real conversations with young people. One trades person works with 2 young people at a time-sharing knowledge in the trades, in life and in the gospel." . The mission and work of this organization is mentoring vulnerable youth so they may learn skills in the trades to be gainfully employed. It was a passion of Jack's.  The battle over, the victory won.
