Dear Barbara - How very sorry my mom Virginia and I are to hear of Herman’s passing. Herman was such a joy to sing with in the Vittoria Bicentennial Choir and then in the Lynn Valley Voices where we met you in the audience. Herman had a resonating singing voice and always such an upbeat and encouraging attitude. He will be greatly missed. Our deepest sympathy to all of you.
Sincerely,

Dear Barbara. The first time I met you and Herman was when you pulled up beside me on the road when I was walking home from church and offered me a ride. I accepted and then you told me that we were first going to Tim Hortons for coffee where you insisted on paying for mine. Another memory I have is when I had to go suddenly to Newfoundland because my brother was not doing so well and it was Herman who gladly drove me to Hamilton to catch the plane on a moments notice. These are the things that I will always remember about Herman. He was always there for me and I’m sure for anyone else in the community. God bless you Herman. May you rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to Herman's second wife and his enormous family. Herman was in the Haldimand Choir with me and he and I even sang some Dutch songs at a Christmas party of the choir. He also joined my husband's choir, The Ambassadors for a short time. So, yes, we knew he loved to sing and did it well. He was a lot of fun to be around. His family will miss him dearly. My sympathies to the family and friends of Herman, a beloved man by many. Herman was for many years a member of Project Harvest and chair of board of directors. He was instrumental in moving the organization forward on a number of fronts. He had a unique ability in bringing people together to work for a good cause and feel the joy and enrichment in doing so. Improving the lives of rural Guatemalans is only one of the many contributions he made in the struggle to create a more just world. He will be well missed. Rest in peace Heman, rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Paul Lemieux

Herman had a way of making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and loved. I appreciate all that I learned about community work from him over the years. His voice for justice and social change was strong, and will continue to echo in the work he gave his time and heart to here in Norfolk and in other communities.

Very saddened to hear about the passing of Herman. Condolences to his family and community of friends. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and the many people he helped through his advocacy and commitment to different causes, including the work on behalf of the migrant farmworkers in the Norfolk area. To quote a popular Spanish song, “Tu eres un amigo de alma para siempre querido Hernán!” You are a friend forever dear Herman. You will be loved and remembered always. God bless
