Daniella, Carmenn & Family,
Our sincere condolences for your loss.
Rick and I first met in grade school, went to Waterford High School together and then onto Mohawk College in Hamilton,
where we then decided to rent an apartment off campus. After the first year we ended up at Chedoke Hospital Residence
until we graduated. Rick remained in Hamilton while I moved to Toronto/Mississauga. We always kept in touch whether
it be by phone, e-mail or occassionally met for coffee to chat about the good old days and sports.
We will miss you Rick. R.I.P.

Please accept my condolences for your loss . I have some great memories of Rick while we both lived in Chedoke Hospital Residence while attending Mohawk College. We had some lively shenanigans during that time.

Rick and I spent endless hours working together in the cable tv business in the 80's. We endured every job and weather condition imaginable but always managed to complete the job with our wit and humor intact. We also spent time together off the job which grew into a friendship I will always be grateful for. We seemed to lose track of each other in later life but reconnected the past couple of years meeting for the occasional lunch with the boys. I'm so thankful that happened. Rest in Peace my Friend...Greg Brown, Hamilton

My deepest condolences on the passing of Rick. A great guy with a great sense of humour and the biggest heart. He came from such a kind family of wonderful people whom my family were very close friends with. I didn't get to see him very often but when we did we always had the best of visits catching up on all the goings on in Waterford and looking back on the old days growing up there. He is going to be missed by all who knew him so cherish the memories of this very special man. I will miss him. RIP Rick and may we meet again one day.

Daniella, Vincent, and Family:
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time with the passing of Rick. He was a very dear and close friend while we were growing up together in Waterford. I have many fond memories of Rick and his family and feel truly fortunate to have known them. They provided me with my first summer job. Rick was a dedicated hard worker when it came to helping at his parent’s store and he spent many hours there. You would often see him behind the meat or deli counter assisting customers. I think he carried around a few scars from his meat cutting days. I would often accompany Rick on his trips to his uncle’s store in St. Catharines to pick up meat for his parent’s store in their old Volkswagen van and later a Dodge van. His biggest worries and concerns on those trips were the traffic circle on the QEW or driving an overloaded van up the Hamilton Mountain and praying we wouldn’t overheat or break down. I think to this day those trips are the reason I do not like the smell of raw meat.
Rick was a real competitor when it came to sports. In high school football he was an excellent outside linebacker that never gave up chasing down the ball carrier and excelled at open field tackles. He also loved to play tennis and he didn’t like to lose. He was a dedicated fan of the Ti-Cats and followed them faithfully throughout the years. Also, Rick was a Habs fan and we had a good rivalry and razzed each other anytime they played the Leafs.
Rick and I had summer jobs together at a combine manufacturing plant in Brantford while we were attending college. We took turns driving and shared a few laughs together on the way back home on the different experiences we had during our shifts. We learned some good life lessons with those jobs and swore we would never work in a manufacturing plant no matter what the pay was.
Rick possessed a dry wit and sense humor that was rather unique and would liven up any occasion with friends. One of his favorite expressions was It’s Time For Tea! I was fortunate to spend some time with Rick this past July and now feel blessed that we did so. He arranged a lunch get together with me and out of province friends Philip and Monica Shalay who were visiting the Waterford area. We hadn’t all been together for well over thirty years. We were able to share many fond memories and enjoy a few laughs.
Rick was a true friend and I will miss him dearly. Every time there is a Habs/Leafs game I will remember him and smile.

Daniella and Vincent: Our sincere condolences on the loss of your Uncle. We too are suffering a great loss. Philip and Richie were inseparable in their youth. They played football together In high school, made many trips to Hamilton to pick up meat for the store. Cruised Turkey Point in the days when it was cool to do so. Spent time on the golf course together. Richie was the Best Man at our wedding in 1973. This July we made a trip across Canada to visit family and friends. Ian Smith happened to be in Ontario at the same time. What were the chances of that? We met at Erie Beach and spent the most wonderful afternoon ever reminiscing and laughing so hard. The picture I attached is of what I called "The Three Amigos" as these three men were very close. Philip Shalay, your Uncle and Ian Smith. July 2024.

Dear Kocznur family:
It was a great privilege to have met and worked with Rick for many years. One thing that meant more than anything to Rick was his family. Not matter the situation at work he always spoke very highly of his dear family and had a quiet confidence in his faith.
Praying the Lord is near you all in this time of loss.
Respectfully, Rob Hofsink and all Ricks friends at Bethlehem/Sentrex.

Dear Daniella, and Vincent, and Family,
I have been a long time friend of Rick for probably 50 years, going back to the college days. I met Rick through other friends of mine who were taking the same courses as Rick in Mohawk College in Hamilton. The group of us seemed to have a special bond, camping, attending sporting events and socializing or “hanging out” as we use to call it.
We did everything together, the good olde days.
I became like a family member over the years, his mom and dad accepted me like a second son. I knew his sister Gail but didn’t see her all the time as she was married and had her own family to care for. My parents and brother accepted Rick as family, it was hard not too.
Rick was like a mentor to my son in his younger years, he always took the time to give him his undivided attention. Rick was like a gentleman to my wife Vicki, always helping when he could. Rick was a reflection of the way his mom and dad raised him, a very caring, loving, and responsible
person.
Rick was a huge Hamilton Tiger Cat fan, had season tickets over the years and we travelled to many CFL playoff games and Grey Cup games across Canada, which was always an interesting time to say the least! Rick also supported the Montreal Canadians in the NHL, and the L A Rams in the NFL.
Rick also coached football in Burlington, Ontario for a friend that we knew from our college days, we originally planned on helping out for a short time to get him started, but ended up coaching for several years. That was Rick!
Now to present, Rick and a few of the guys from the college days if you can still believe it, got together once a month for a luncheon and a lot of reminiscing. It was always a laugh talking about what we did in our younger years. Something that will always be cherished in our lives.
Rick you are now together with your family in heaven, rest in peace and be…. good!
My family and I will miss you and will hold our fond memories close to our hearts.
God Bless
