Obituary of Randolph Baker

Baker: (Randy) Randolph- It is with great sadness that the family of Randy Baker announces his passing on Friday, June 30th, 2006 at Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe, in his 64th year, after a brief battle with cancer. He is the beloved husband of 33 years of Alice (O'Neil) Baker; loving and proud father of Tara Bint (Troy), Kitchener and Tiffanie, Exeter. Dear opa to Zachary, Ryan and Marissa Bint. He will also be sadly missed by brothers Henry (Nelly), Bayfield, Simon, Drayton, and sister-in-law Sandra Gracey (George), Listowel. Predeceased by parents Jacob and Jane (Braad) Baker (1998 and 1994) St. Mary, brother John (1989) Embro, sisters-in-law Ena (2001), Embro, and Janet (2005),Stratford, and father and mother-in-law Lyle and Glorena (Burdon) O'Neil (1998), Guleph. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins. Also, greatly missing " the Acting Mayor of Lutesville" are his close friends Gary and Sharlene Armstrong, Bill and Theresa Dunkley and Gray and Barb Stewardson, all fellow members for many years of the "Waterford Breakfast Club", and travel companions, Archie and Maria Demeulenaere. Randy was born in the Netherlands and emigrated to Canada with his family in 1948, eventually settling in the Stratford area. After graduating from the University of Guelph, Randy worked in Horticultural Research in Guelph and Simcoe for almost 30 years, retiring in 1997. As well, he owned and operated Baker Greenhouses for 26 years. Over the years, Randy has been associated with many groups and organizations but since his retirement he has concentrated his time and energy to the Long Point Branch of the Ontario Institute of Agrologists and to the Waterford Lions Club where he is the Past President. Cremation has taken place but family and friends are invited to a visitation at the THOMPSON-MOTT FUNERAL HOME, Waterford on Friday July 7th, 2006 from 7-9 p.m. Lions Service to take place at 6:30 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday July 8, 2006 at 11a.m. at Waterford United Church, Main St. S. Waterford. The Reverend Jeff Smith officiating. Inurnment at Greenwood Cemetery. Donations in Randy's memory may be made to Camp Trillium Rainbow Lake or Waterford United Church.
