Obituary of Ferdinand Mels

MELS, Ferdinand (Vern); After a long and courageous fight with cancer, surrounded by his loving family and wife, Vern died at Norfolk General Hospital Tuesday January 20, 2009, of Vanessa, in his 85th year. Beloved husband for 60 years to Yolanda (Declerck). Loving father Nancy (and Bob) Kozak, Larry (and Ellen), David (and Liz). Proud Grandpa of Jennifer Beal (Michael), Jeff Kozak (Jessica), Brent (Brooke), Tara (Scott0, David Mels, Sarah (Matt), Dakota; great grandchildren Allie, and Ryan Beal. Dear brother of Mary Woynarski. Vern will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Predeceased by brothers Ben and Leon. Vern farmed all his life, tobacco and later ginseng, only retiring 10 years ago, Vern loved fishing, playing cards, going on vacation, especially cruising, was an avid fan of hockey and was a member of the Belgium and German Halls in Delhi. Friends may call at the THOMPSON-MOTT FUNERAL HOME, Waterford, on Friday 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Mass of a Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Parish Saturday at 10 am. Fr. Al Dufraimont officiating. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. Parish Prayers will be held Friday at 7:30 pm.
