YOUNG, Ruth; Peacefully at Cedarwood Village, Simcoe on Monday March 2, 2009, formerly of Waterford in her 90th year. Beloved wife of Mervyn Young. Loving mother of Brenda Castle-Young, Jennifer Young, Hilary (& Debbie) Young, & mother-in-law of Mary Hipel. Cherished Grandmother of Sherri (& Tom) Jantzi, Sean, Stephen (& Cherry), Greg (& Pearl), Tom, Erin (& Chris), Andrew (& Ryoko), Sarah & great grandchildren Candice, Chloe, Gavin, John Mark, April, & Ashley. Also survived by brother-in-law Bern Jubb & several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by son Rocky, sister Helen Jubb, brothers Burton & Bill Graves. Growing up with parents who traveled through Canada as Salvation Army Captains. Ruth moved to Waterford with her husband Merv and their children in 1950. Ruth had a love for Waterford, and served as a volunteer for many community organizations over the years including the Waterford and District Historical Society, Spruce Row Museum, and the Norfolk Hospital Auxiliary. Ruth was known for her creative flair, she was an avid writer and painter. She was well known for her weekly newspaper column, "Rapping with Ruth". Ruth loved to garden, sing and play the piano. She traveled extensively with family and friends. Ruth was an avid local historian who truly loved her community. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and many friends. Friends may call at the THOMPSON-MOTT FUNERAL HOME, Waterford Thursday 6-9pm. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel Friday at 11am. Pastor Ralph Hamminga officiating. Interment Greenwood Cemetery.
