Obituary of DOUGLAS NOEL MURTON
Please share a memory of DOUGLAS to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MURTON, Douglas Noel – Of 264 Howard St., Waterford, passed away at Norfolk General Hospital after a brief illness on Sunday March 19, 2017 in his 92nd year. Loving husband of M. Elizabeth (Betty Hammond) and predeceased by his parents, Eric and Helen Murton of Waterford. Father of Suzanne Guest (Russell) Niagara Falls, On and Roderick Murton, Burlington, On. Also survived by daughter-in-law Diane Murton, grandson Eddie Murton (Amanda) and great-grandson Bentley of Delhi, granddaughter Marissa Murton of Vancouver, B.C., sister-in-law Doris (and the late Alex) Landon of Waterloo, and her children Zebulon Landon (Laurie) of Simcoe, Alexis Landon (Reiner Jakubowski) and Elizabeth Lawrence (Donald), of Waterloo, and Charity Landon of Toronto. Douglas was a lifetime member and former Warden of Trinity Anglican Church, Waterford, and served as Treasurer for the Church and the Local Brotherhood of Anglican Churchmen organization for many years. Prior to retirement he was employed in the office of the former Norfolk Co-operative Co. and before that time he was a T.V. technician at Mott's furniture store and a Funeral Director for Mott's Funeral Home in Waterford. As a young man, he farmed in Townsend Township with his father. In 1949-1950 he was President of the Norfolk Junior Farmers. During this time he met Betty, who was the President of the Norfolk Junior Farm Girls (later called the Junior Women's Institute). The Junior Farmers' Building was donated by the Government to the Norfolk County Fair during their term as Presidents. It had been a drill hall in a military camp during World War II. When the Minister of Agriculture came to make the presentation after the building had been moved on site, Douglas and Betty presided at the inaugural banquet as representatives of the Norfolk Junior Farmer Clubs. In later years, Douglas served as a Director and Treasurer for the Waterford and District Horticultural Society and in September 2015, he and Betty were honoured by the Society with the dedication of a bench in Yin's Park, not far from their long time home in Waterford. Friends may be received at THOMPSON-MOTT FUNERAL HOME, Waterford, on Sunday March 26, 2017 from 1-4 pm. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Monday March 27, 2017 at 11am. Rev. Bill Graham and Rev. Sandy Sinnick officiating. Cremation has taken place and interment of ashes will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy the family would appreciate donations to Trinity Anglican Church Waterford or charity of choice. www.thompsonmottfuneralhome.com
