Obituary of DON GILES

GILES, Donald Beverly (Don) – Peacefully at Hardy Terrace, Mount Pleasant, on Sunday, April 26, 2020, of Waterford, at the age of 81, after a long illness. Beloved husband of fifty years to Linn (Horning). Brother of Sharon Faryniuk, and brother-in-law of George (and Kathy) Horning. Don will also sadly be missed by nieces, nephews, and friends. Predeceased by brothers Harold, Keith, and sisters Connie, Dolly, and Kathleen. Don held a degree in chemistry and physics and an advanced degree in mathematics. His long teaching career was completed with headship of the math department of Valley Heights, Norfolk School Board; he also provided many teaching friends with pension advice. Don co-invented, with a colleague, a black ice detector, patented in the United States. He and Linn enjoyed many trips abroad, and his retirement time was spent gardening, woodworking, and rebuilding classic vehicles. A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy donations to Waterford Camp Trillium Rainbow Lake would be appreciated by the family.
