A Short Sail
Many years ago at the cottage, Uncle Dave and Gramps(my dad) had the notion that it might be fun to go out for a sail. Despite 30 to 40 km winds and waves almost a metre high the two culprits put the hard sell on Uncle Eddy and myself to join them. Uncle Ed was very weary of the idea but he succumbed to peer pressure. The adventure lasted less than 20 minutes. Big Dave was extradited from the boat 400 feet from the cottage by a large wave. Shortly thereafter, heading west the Skipper(gramps) was soundly deposited in Lake Erie. Now it was up to Uncle Eddy and I.
Nope. Uncle Ed was deposited in the lake just east of Haldimand Park and 5 minutes later the boat and I were upside down and the mast was scraping on the reef just east of the cottage.
Scary at the time but looking back it was hilarious. Will miss good old Uncle Eddy. Fun times and great stories. A gentlemen and a class act.

Hi Joanne, I was your CGIT leader many years ago. I was sad to see news of your dad's passing. Occasionally we would have a short visit downtown or at the post office and it was always a pleasure. He was really proud of you all. Saying good-bye is hard. Heartfelt condolences to you and all the family. Barb Stewardson

Uncle Eddie was a salt of the earth kind of guy. He and Aunt Linda were the “Lake Greeters” and Ed would always ask about our kids, remembering specific things about each of them even if they hadn’t seen him in ages. What a sweetheart. We will miss you Ed. We know you and Aunt Linda are sharing a cheer with a beer and rum and Coke. Our sympathies to all our cousins and your families. Rest in peace, Uncle Eddie. Love Rich and Laura Barrett xo
